Grams, cups and the portion you actually eat
Choose the right unit, use supported household measures, and avoid mixing raw and cooked weights.
Read the reference amount first
Every nutrition number needs an amount attached to it. A food listed per 100 g, a drink listed per 100 ml and a product listed per packet describe different reference amounts. Before comparing or calculating, identify which one the source uses. A bare number such as ‘2 g carbs’ is incomplete without that context.
A serving printed on a label reflects an amount used for labeling; it is not a personal instruction about how much you should eat. The FDA’s label guide explains that the nutrient panel applies to the declared serving, so using twice the amount means scaling the nutrients accordingly.

Weight and volume answer different questions
Grams measure mass. Milliliters and cups measure volume. Moving between them needs evidence for that food and preparation. You cannot assume that every 100 ml portion weighs 100 g, or that a cup of one flour weighs the same as a cup of another.
King Arthur’s ingredient chart illustrates the difference: it lists a cup of almond flour at 96 g and a cup of coconut flour at 128 g. Those are that source’s ingredient reference weights. They should not silently become a conversion for every brand, packing method or different flour.

Use household measures with their full description
A source may distinguish a cup of chopped nuts from a cup of ground nuts, or a large piece from a medium one. Keep those words attached to the amount. A convenient shortened label can hide the very detail that makes a conversion meaningful.

Choosing two units of a measure multiplies that source weight by two. Pieces and loosely packed cups still vary in real life; a scale is useful when you want a closer estimate.
Match the preparation state
A raw ingredient and a cooked ingredient need not have the same nutrients per 100 g. Water can be lost or absorbed during preparation, changing the concentration by weight. Added oil, sauce or breading also introduces ingredients that were not part of the raw food record.
For a recipe calculated from raw ingredients, weigh those ingredients before cooking, add their nutrient contributions, and divide by the actual number of portions produced. If you instead weigh a finished food, choose a source that describes that finished preparation. Mixing a cooked weight with a raw reference can produce a neat-looking but misleading result.
A quick workflow at the counter
Place your bowl on the scale and tare it before adding an ingredient. Record the edible amount you actually use, excluding packaging or parts you discard. Keep the unit alongside the number. In the KetoLens tool, select grams, milliliters or a supported measure that matches that record.
An invalid amount or missing nutrient stays explicit in the calculator. Avoid filling a gap with a guessed zero just to complete a total. When copying a shopping list, remember that buying quantities are not automatically a record of what you ate.
